Guest Post by Erin from Expecting Executive.
Hi there!
I am one of those people who love corny phrases. You know expressions like I'm busier than a one armed grave digger or She's a sandwich short of a picnic. But one of my favorite saying is; Men will kiss your ass but women will save it. It's a phrase that seems resonate well here. Or, more appropriately, men may kiss your bunny but women will save it.
As a blog squatter, I might be an unfamiliar voice to Velveteen Mind's amazing readers. Me? Well, I am a pretty dry, pragmatic writer over at the ExpectingExecutive blog. When I post, it is always my intent to try and provide practical, level-headed information, support, reassurance or compassion that might help women manage their everyday life's details.
I worry, often, about the amount of stress, concern, fear and loneliness that women are accepting, creating and facing in their everyday lives. The titles, tags, expectations, criticisms and judgments women make and accept on a daily basis can become overwhelming. When overwhelming sets in, many women will make their way to the blogosphere to search for answers, look for support, make new friends and find inspiration. It is my hope that these world weary women find wonderful blogs like Megan's Velveteen Mind where they might visit, recharge and make a new friend.
On the flip side of my worry is my delight when women join together to support, care and appreciate one another. For most women, it requires great strength and courage to ask for help. However, those moments of strength and bravery are often rewarded with expected and often unexpected support and assistance. People like to be needed. When you reach out, in sincerity, to your collective friends, relatives, neighbors, coworkers and even in your e-community and ask for help, the chances are quite good that you will find many around you who were just waiting to be asked.
So, as the ThanksChrisHanKwanEve approaches, I might suggest you take moment to help yourself. Take some time to jot down all of the many activities, tasks and chores that await you in preparing for the holiday season. Then, try to identify some of the areas where you might be able to use a little bit of help during this holiday season. Lastly, be brave and strong and ask for it!
'Cause like my sainted mother always said; you can wish in one hand and shit in another and see which ones fills up first. Don't wish you had help, ask for it.
And, Megan, you have my help anytime you need it!
Be well - and thank you for the opportunity to help save the bunny,
Erin
