Happy Mother's Day, ya'll!

Boats and Birds
Gregory and the Hawk
video with lyrics, in case you want to learn it for a tearjerker lullaby...
I'd love to know... What do you sing to your babies?

The song I sing my daughter was actually the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. I think the lyrics can go either way. "Calico Skies" by Paul McCartney. The first few lines read:
"It was written that I would love you
From the moment I opened my eyes.
And the moment that I first saw you
Gave me life under calico skies.
I will hold you for as long as you like
I'll love you for the rest of my life."
I used to sing this to her in the NICU, and now reading the words, I don't know how I did it without crying since, at the time, I had yet to hold her.
Happy Mother's Day, Megan!

I've sung everything from Peter, Paul and Mary, The Beatles, The Eagles, and Amazing Grace to Martina McBride and Aerosmith :-)

I always sang Hush Little Baby to my kids when they were babies. They still ask for it once in a while. My bad voice and all!

I love "Baby Mine" from Dumbo.

It's funny, without intention I made up a song for each of my boys based on the rhythm each seemed to need to fall asleep. My oldest was a bop-bop-a-dop-bop version of his name spelled out, and my younger was more of a lullaby. I also subbed their names into songs..."you are my Sean-shine, my only Sean-shine, you make me happy...."

When she was a baby, I sang "Baby Mine" from the Beaches soundtrack. (And Dumbo. But I sang the Bette Midler version. It mattered.)
Now she's 9 and I've been tormenting her with "Abby Sue", my own version of Peggy Sue. She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, so I know it's working. :-)

Happy Mother's Day to you too, Megan! Even if it is a day late (sorry). I hope you had a wonderful day. :)
I usually sing the 'usual' - Twinkle Twinkle (my own version though), You Are My Sunshine, Brahm's Lullaby... I'm not terribly creative when it comes to singing.

That picture is precious!
And I loved the song - I will be learning it now as my lullabies are getting tiresome.
A non-lullaby I sing to the kids is Favorite Chords by the Weakerthans. It's so pretty - I do change a few of the lyrics, for the audience's sake.

Oh, that's beautiful. I've been looking for something to do my son's second-year slide show to, and that tune may just fit the bill.
Every night, my little boys falls asleep to "Godspeed". My favorite part:
The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you
Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

That is beautiful. So is the picture.
I usually hum "Satellite" or "Landslide." I don't want to scare my kids with my singing!
Hope you had a marvelous Mom's Day!

How beautiful!
Having kids slighter older, I simply stop at "time for bed for your sleepy head" and a quick prayer for the goblins under the bed to rest peacefully.

I sing "in my life" - the johnny cash version
Pretty baby-Vanessa Carlton

I used to sing "Songbird" by Fleetwood Mac - now Little J just says "stop singing mommy!"..got to hate when they are that honest!!

I used to sing the Ernie and Aaron Neville duet from Sesame Street:
Oh I'd like to visit the moon
On a rocket ship high in the air
Yes I'd like to visit the moon
But I don't think I'd like to live there
Oh I'd like to look down
At the Earth from above
But I'd miss all the people
And places I love
So although I might go
For one afternoon
I don't want to live on the moon.

oh yeah, "it's amazing" by mindy smith.

Happy belated mothers day to you, too.
That's a beautiful song. I'm going to have to learn it - I sing to my boys every bedtime.
My current favourite is Lullaby by the Dixie Chicks.
